Charles Gojer, PE, President

Charles Gojer immigrated to America from Cuba in 1962, and later graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BS in Civil Engineering. He founded his own practice, Charles Gojer & Associates, in 1973. He has led and grown his firm for 40 years, practicing both structural and civil engineering. Charles has served as the senior engineer-of-record for numerous projects that include higher education, high-rise and mid-rise office buildings, high-tech facilities, commercial and industrial buildings, churches, healthcare, and a broad range of municipal, county, state and federal owned facilities. Charles has served as the President of Datum Gojer Engineers since its inception in 2000. He also has served on several community and professional boards during his career.

Thomas Taylor, PE, Principal

Thomas Taylor graduated from University of Texas at Austin in 1959 with a BS in Architectural Engineering. Thomas joined Frank Chappell & Associates, the predecessor firm of Datum, in 1959. By 1963 he had assumed leadership of the company, and later incorporated the firm as Datum Engineers. Since that time, under his leadership, Datum has grown into one of the most respected structural engineering firms in Texas and beyond. He has served on the Datum Gojer leadership team since the company was founded in 2000. Thomas is widely recognized for his creativity in the design of landmark structures, and for integrating the structure seamlessly and beautifully with the architectural design. He has served in leadership roles in numerous community organizations.

Carmelo Rivero, Ph.D., PE, Principal

Born in Cuba and raised in Puerto Rico, Carmelo first came to Dallas as an assistant professor of engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has conducted extensive research in the areas of structural analysis, structural dynamics and finite element theory, and holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign, IL. Carmelo has worked with Charles Gojer since 1987. His diverse background includes the design of structural steel and reinforced concrete buildings, concrete silos and aluminum curtain walls for single and multi-story buildings, numerous transportation projects, and civil structures such as pedestrian and vehicular bridges.

Robert Fry, PE, Principal

Robert Fry joined Datum Engineers in 1979, three years after graduating from the University of Texas. In 1998, he was named Senior Vice President of the firm in recognition of his leadership role in the Austin office. Robert is an accomplished project manager, using his experience to ask the right questions at the right time, and provide appropriate, well-conceived solutions. His clients value his attention to detail, his persistence in working through challenges, and his good-natured personality. Robert has managed projects spanning a broad spectrum of building and structure types, including several projects in excess of $100M.
